The IPL Luminaries' Picture
The IPL Luminaries is a service organization whose members are retired employees and employees with over 15-year's service. By charter and by tradition, we are committed to serving our IPL communities as well as our members. Historically, this mission carries forward the Company's pioneering effort to bring electricity to families and businesses from the early days of the 20th century. The "IPL spirit" reflects pride in that contribution and in our tradition of ensuring outstanding electric service reliability to our communities.
As established members of local networks, Luminaries' respect and credibility often aid response to important needs on IPL's community affairs agenda. As an IPL partner, it offers able Company support without affecting daily operations.
Our community service takes many forms. Some seem small and some greater in importance. But all respond to real needs with the spirit of active care and concern the IPL Spirit.

Social & Special Interest Activities
Annual Events
The Luminaries Annual Dinner Usually held in the fall, this highlight of the year is the main celebration bringing Company leadership and Luminaries together to share an evening. IPL leadership is invited, sometimes giving a short message. Entertainment may be included (humor, music, magic), with plenty of time to visit. Newly elected advisory council members and officers are announced for the coming year. All members and their spouse are invited, with normal attendance running between 600 to 800 guests. The annual dinner will be at Primo banquet hall, located at 2615 National Ave on the city's south side.
Fall Golf Outing Held at Fox Cliff Country Club near Eagle Valley plant, this is timed to attract those coming from out of town for the annual dinner. Although play and luncheon are self supporting, some prizes and event funding are provided by the IPL budget.
Planned Calendar Events
While every year is unique, each reflects a recurring pattern of interests. Experience shows that a good balance of events is more favorably received than a large number of choices. Early each year the Social Committee seeks event ideas and chairpersons, who take over planning and coordinating once targets are set.
The Advisory Council
This governing group has seven members, plus an appointed employee liaison. Three are elected by the general membership on odd years, and four on even years. The council then elects its own officers to serve as President, Vice President, and Secretary-Treasurer.
Key committees, whose chairs are appointed by the President, include Community Volunteers, Transportation (to aid Luminaries members), Social Activities, Publicity (to publish the newsletter) and Communications.
In late 2001, the Luminaries Constitution and Bylaws were amended by a vote of the general membership. Under the guidance of the Advisory Council, this was done to more fully correspond to and support the changing IPL organizations, to prepare for more flexibility in carrying out its charter and to extend greater participation and membership opportunities to new organization entities.
